We started off our 2018 season in Plum City last weekend, finishing the tournament going 2-1, which was good enough for second place! Game one we took on the River Falls Fighting Fish and started out pretty hot, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first. Billy and Mike Brookshaw, along with Logan Johnson led the way offensively with 2 hits each. Eric Munson started the game on the mound for us and ended up throwing a no hitter (near perfect game) as we went on to win 4-0.
Game 2 against the Menominee Eagles started off about the same way as we scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Evan Bayer started this game for us on the mound, throwing a solid 6 1/3 innings before Mike Lytle made his first comeback appearance on the mound in nearly four years. Lytle closed the final 2 outs of the game from the mound, which gave us another win by a score of 9-5.
In the championship game we were put up against the Osseo Merchants. A great game from Conner Cress on the hill held the Merchants to only 2 runs and a handful of hits, but we couldn’t string any hits together, as we took our first loss of the season 2-0.
We continue play this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday. We’ll be at home both days taking on Bay City (Saturday) and Hager City (Sunday), both beginning at 1PM. Sunday, First National Bank of River Falls will be holding their annual tailgate! Their will be both food and beverages available to attending fans throughout the game! Thank you to all of those from the bank that are volunteering their time to show their support to our team, and fans, be sure to thank them for their time as well!
Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!
Go Pirates!
